Untried May - Update 1

Hey all!

Been pretty quiet around here but I have been pretty active on instagram, it's the best way to keep updated with what I'm up to so you should follow me if you aren't already *wink wink*. A bunch of us AN ladies are doing a month of only using polishes that are untried, hence #untriedmay!

I decided I would do update posts of the manis rather than a post for each, so hopefully I will have another update before the end of the month.

Pretty Serious Into Dream and Emily de Molly Dark Forces swatch mani nail polish

A great way to start off the month was with aussie indies! That purple, huunnnggg!
The purple is Pretty Serious Cosmetics Into Dreams (2 coats) and the black is Emily de Molly Dark Forces (1 coat over black) with black triangle studs from ebay.

Essie Sand Tropez, Illamasqua Swinger and Matte top coat swatch mani nail polish elegant nail art

I was surprised how much I loved this mani as it is so not like anything I have ever worn before.
The base for this was Essie Sand Tropez (3 coats) with hand painted tips using Illamasqua Swinger with 1 coat of Illamasqua Matte top coat.

Maybelline Sea-quins, Femme Fatale Cosmetics Hydraxia, Shades of Phoenix Poseidon swatch mani nail polish glitter gradient nail art

Maybelline Sea-quins, Femme Fatale Cosmetics Hydraxia, Shades of Phoenix Poseidon swatch mani nail polish glitter gradient nail art

This has been my current favourite so far, but it has been so hard to pick as I've loved all of the manis I've done. I may have had this on for nearly a week because I didn't want to take it off.
The base was Maybelline Sea-quins (2 coats) then a brushed on gradient of Femme Fatale Cosmetics Hydraxia and Shades of Phoenix Poseidon.

Illamasqua Vice, Illamasqua Gothica, Femme Fatale Cosmetics Vrotex Remains swatch mani nail polish

Lastly we have a mix and match mani using Illamasqua Vice on the pointer and ring finger (3 coats), Illamsqua Gothica on the middle (already worn, 2 coats) and Femme Fatale Cosmetics Vortex Remains on the ring finger (2 dabbed coats).

Hope you enjoyed this post, if you did, be sure to keep and eye on the #untriedmay tag on instagram for more nails from the other ladies!

Overall, I love this collection! All the polishes are great, formula was spot on as Mckfresh polish always is, but I do kinda wish there had been a slime green in here and maybe a bit of a difference between Dead House and Haunted Mask for a bit more variety , but still they are all gorgeous.

These will be on sale at 8pm on the 22nd May, will be $10 per bottle and can be purchased from the Mckfresh Etsy page.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia wrap up and haul

Hey all!

I really wanted to do a post that explained my absence in a little bit more detail, as well as show you the beauty related goodies I got during Fashion Week!

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia wrap up and beauty product haul

Since I was made redundant and the job I got didn't work out, I started focusing more on trying to be a photographers assistant, someone that helps out with the sometimes mundane but necessary tasks that are important either on a photoshoot or even after the shoot has been completed. Luckily I contacted the photographer I helped at Fashion Week last year and he has taken me on board as his sometime assistant. If your curious about seeing some of his work check him out at Zeduce.org and MEDIAIDEM.com.au

In the lead up to Fashion Week I assisted him at a couple of look book studio shoots for 2 designers dealing with setting up lighting equipment, moving/holding lights, changing backdrops and manning the computer, got to try my hand at photographing dance at the Sydney Dance Company and at the press viewing of the ballet Manon at the Sydney Opera House, and worked as a second shooter for him at a press event for G-Star Raw where British model Lily Cole attended.

For Fashion Week my job was a lot more repetitive! We where covering 23 shows through out the week for Elle Magazine, all of which where being published online and needed to be up fast, so my job was to get the images off the photographer, go through them, select the best of each outfit, edit and crop them to the right size, apply all the necessary copyright info, rename the files keeping them in order they appeared on the runway and upload them to a server online and emailed the people at Elle all within a tight deadline. I wager I probably went through about 1500 images during the week and edited about 500ish. I did get to do a little bit of shooting, shot the Kahlo runway as well as a bit of street style if I got all the editing done.

Turns out they also where published on Harper Bazaar as well, which was an added bonus. Unfortunately I can't show you any of the photos other than what's online as we have to wait to get permission from Elle as they're withholding some images as they're going to be in the print magazine.

Here are some screenshots of my work online!

Ok so onto the part you want to see! As a part of the shows, a lot of the designers give out gift bags for attending and once the runway is over and you can get off the media riser, you walk through the seating and see what has been left behind from people that didn't take the bags. As Fashion Week is mainly for industry people they usually have some pretty swanky items in them, this was my haul from 6 bags, 2 of which where from the same show hence the double ups.

My total score items are most of the ones in the left of the photo. For the Aurelio Costarella show, MAC was the main sponsor and so they included a box of 5 products with some hair care items. It contained Currant lip pencil, Teddy eye kohl pencil, Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle, Enlightening pressed pigment and Woodwink Veluxe Pearl eye shadow. The eye kohl, pressed pigment and eye shadow I can totally see myself using. I am going to give the Currant lip pencil a go as I am slightly desperate to try and get confident wearing lip colour, and I am always drawn to dark plums. The Skinfinish I'm not sure on, I'm not 100% on what it's purpose is, if it's a bronzer or not and I'm not sure if it will work with my pale skin.

Alice McCall contained some Lady Jayne hair accessories and some Essie and OPI nail polish. I received another Midnight Cami (I got one at last years FW), Sand Tropez which is gorgeous and OPI Lucky Lucky Lavender which is not a lavender at all! Lies OPI!

Another few random items items from another bag where some samples of Ella Bache skin care, some gorgeous Molton Brown hand creams that smell divine and a Maybelline lipstick in Tantalizing Taupe. We shall see how the lipstick looks on me, I received a orangey coloured one last year and it looked pretty bad.

And lastly my favourite thing from the whole week, a gorgeous bracelet from the Swarovski show. This was the first time Swarovski has put on an independent runway show, and it was gorgeous. I don't know what else was in their bag, I think just a catalogue, as I was in a hurry so I just grabbed the box and rushed out to edit.

This thing is glorious, it is meant to be a bracelet but it is far to large for my tiny wrists, but fits perfectly as a necklace. I think this may have been an item they whipped up quickly for the event as I cannot find anything similar online. It is just loose gold coloured crystals in a strong plastic type mesh tubing with a silver magnetic clasp. I imagine these would have been pretty cheap for them to make for the event as the loose crystals cost them hardly anything, I had a friends sister who worked for Swarovski.

Well that is it, a huge post, woah sorry! I still do need to go through and sort out what I don't want/need or cant use and pass it on to other friends.

I hope you enjoyed this sneak peek into my life, I haven't really done anything excited since then other than re editing photos to be print ready for the magazine. Hopefully once that is out I can share more photos with you!
