Halloween Challenge 2013 - Recreate

Hey all!

Second last challenge! Wow so close to the end! This promt was to recreate someone else's mani from the challenge and I chose the talented Naomi from NananaisNails and nadeekay on Instagram. Her work has been flawless during this whole challenge so I hope I have done the mani justice!

halloween nail art jack skellington nightmare before christmas ulta3 essence polish

It's Jack Skellington from Nightmare Before Christmas! I copied it from this mani of Naomi's. I am pretty pleased how it came out as I have never tried to do a characters face before so I didn't know if he would be recognisable. Polishes used where Ulta3 Lily White, Essence Where's the party at? and Wanna be your sunshine, as well as a black and white striper from It's So Easy.

Only 1 prompt left! Aww I am kinda sad, I have enjoyed trying my hand at nail art, maybe this was the kick in the but I needed to get into it. Hopefully there will be more art from me in the future!

Halloween Challenge 2013 - Graveyard

Hey all!

I forgot to do this post yesterday so it's backdate (again) :P The prompt was Graveyard so I decided to freehand some gravestones :D I really liked these until I tried to put the writing RIP on them.

Illamasqua Zoya Savvy halloween nails manicure gravestones graveyard

For the base I used a mixture of Zoya Dove, Savvy Grey and Illamasqua DWS and Snap. I did the details with a black striper and acrylic paint. The black borders are not meant to be even as I wanted them to look like they where different shapes.

Only 2 prompts left for this challenge! If you'd like to see the rest of the participating manis be sure to check out the hashtag #halloweenchallenge2013 on Instagram or see the InLinkz list below!

Halloween Challenge 2013 - Bats

Hey all!

Bats! Yayyyyyy bats! I have been looking forward to this prompt all month for the obvious reasons, I love bats! I have 2 manis for this actually, I did the first but wasn't super happy with it as I didn't have a clear idea what I wanted to do so then couldn't help but play again tonight and use some of the awesome new polishes I received today!

halloween nail art polish bats illamasqua zoya lynnderella

This is the one I did tonight that I loooovveeee! I am so annoyed I didn't wait long enough and smeared the stamping, but I am learning so patience will come! I should have a review up in a few weeks on Moonstone Magic.

Polishes used where Ulta3 Black Satin and Lily White, Zoya Dove, Illamasqua DWS, Crows Toes Triple Black Diamond and Lynnderella Moonstone Magic!

halloween nail art polish bats matte illamasqua swarm zoya

Now the semi-fail mani. By the next morning the matte base has a sheen and it lost it's effect, and I wasn't totally happy with my accent nail. Swarm, the black glitter, is the new LE Illamasqua polish that has just been released for Halloween.

Polishes used where Illamasqua Boosh and Swarm, Zoya Ivanka, Essie Matte About You and Kleancolor Clear for stamping.

Illamasqua Beauty School Drop In - Halloween Makeup

Hey all!

The other weekend I had the opportunity to model for the amazing Adam Malone at the Sydney Illamasqua counter for their Beauty School Drop-In!

The hold Beauty School Drop-in classes once a month on a Sunday and each time there is a different theme. Since it was October the theme was obviously Halloween makeup! The team had 4 face charts to go off and Adam selected the half Sugar Skull, half beauty look for me. A instavideo of this look can be seen here!

I happened to be wearing Pretty Serous Grimm Demise at the time. These were the face charts they could choose from.

For my time I was allowed to choose 3 products to take home so I grabbed Skin Base Lift in White Light and Adam recommended me to try Hydra Veil and the Blusher Duo in Katie and Ambition. I was also allowed to keep the lashes in No.17.

Huge thanks to Adam and the Illamasqua team for a great day, I had such a great time!

Halloween Challenge 2013 - Favourite Horror Monster

Hey all!

Next challenge mani, yes I know I am a day late (I've backdated the post :P), but I had planned to do this last night but I fell asleep on the couch ^^;

Frankenstein! I freaking LOVE the base for this! I really didn't know what I wanted to do but I knew I didn't want to cover it up to much. It reminds me of Nephrite Jade :D

Illamasqua halloween nail art zoya frankenstein polish

Polished used where Illamasqua Smash, Elope and Rampage all sponged on randomly to create a marbleized pattern, then I used Zoya Apple to add flecks of shimmer and used a black and white striper and dotting tool to create the details.

Halloween Challenge 2013 - Trick or Treat

Hey all,

Another challenge prompt today! Trick or treat! I really didnt want to do candy corn as that is so over done so I decided to do green toffee apples and an obscure spider over my current all time fave polish. I've worn Emily de Molly Chasing Rainbows like 4-5 times now in various manis since I got it, seems to have become my go to polish. Love it.

halloween challenge 2013 trick or treat illamasqua smash ruthless emily de molly chasing rainbows toffee apple spider

I wasn't overly happy with this as I didn't have a red opaque enough for the drips to be solid, do they're patchy as hell. I do however love my little spider :)

Polishes where Illamasqua Smash (green), Ruthless (red) and Emily de Molly Chasing Rainbows (black holo). Spider and drip highlights where done with a black and white striper.

Review: Sayuri Psychadelia and Candied Visions

Hey all!

Today is the first time I'm featuring Sayuri Nail Lacquer on my blog! Anthea was kind enough to let me pick a couple of polishes from her range for review, so I chose Psychadelia and Candied Visions.

First off, a little about Sayuri.
Sayuri Nail Lacquer is an independent Australian company specialising in hand mixed nail polish. Developed by chief designer Anthea Cosentino, Sayuri was launched in March 2013 from a desire to combine her design qualification with her passion for nail polish. Anthea's design aesthetic is often described as 'quirky', and her inspirations are consistently wild and whimsical. 'Normal' is not something that we aspire to!
A large majority of our products are designed for layering. This means that our polishes are highly versatile, and the final look of the polish is very much up to the user. Build them up on their own in 2-3 coats, or layer them over your favourite plain polish for a completely different effect.
All of our products are 3-free (Toluene, Formaldehyde and DBP Free), and are lovingly made using quality ingredients.
Sayuri polishes are available directly through her website or internationally through Mei Mei's Signatures.

Now onto the good stuff!

Candied Visions is a mint green creme polish with a subtle linear holographic effect. I used 3 coats and 1 coat Poshe. Very soft and pretty.

Here we have Psychadelia, this one really surprised me! By the macro it doesn't look like much, but on the nail, holy wow! This polish is a multichrome purple flake in a tinted black base and is oh so rich! I chose to layer it over a purple base which enhanced the purple. I layered 2 coats over 1 coat Kleancolor IT Purple, which is amazing in it's own right!

Halloween Challenge 2013 - Horror Movies

Hey all!

Another halloween mani :D I chose to do Saw, okay I know if probably not really classified as a horror movie but whatevs, the movies are awesome, they're gory, I love them.

halloween nails nail art horror movies saw spooky blood

I used Sally Hansen White on for the base, BYS Rebel Red for the blood splatter, Ulta3 Black Satin for the grunge border and red and black acrylic paint for the details. Was my first time doing splatter, I need to do more! Love the look so much.

Halloween Challenge 2013 - Witches

Hey all!

Super fast post again for the Halloween Challenge 2013 hosted by Lacquer Dreams! Todays prompt, witches! Went a bit abstract with this one, but I still think it's witchy enough.

Halloween Nail art Witches blair witch salem black cat

Ok, so left to right!

Pointer: Blair Witch Project symbol. Polishes used were Savvy Grey, Emily de Molly Chasing Rainbows, Ulta3 Black Satin, white acrylic paint and random green glow in the dark polish.

Middle: Fire representing the burning of the Salem Witches. Polishes used where Illamasqua Blow, Whack and Ruthless with Alanna Renee Fawkes.

Ring: Black cat, a witches familiar. Polishes used Kleancolor True Purple, Sally Hansen Golden-I and Ulta3 Black Satin featuring Bundle Monster plate BM-H08 generiously gifted by Jen over at The Nail Polish Project at our last Sydney meetup.

Pinkie: I always imagine PG rated witches to have striped socks. Illamasqua Nurture, random green glow in the dark and Emily de Molly Chasing Rainbows.

Halloween Challenge 2013 - Zombies

Hey all!

Today is the second challenge mani and the prompt was zombies!! Yay! I lurve zombies, nearly as much as bats, so I went a little crazy and abstract with this one. I got the idea from a tutorial I saw just after Halloween last year, but I cannot for the life of me remember who it was :(

zombie halloween nails spooky manicure blood Illamasqua Throb Ruthless Boosh OPI Skull and Glossbones Stranger Tides skull

zombie halloween nails spooky manicure blood Illamasqua Throb Ruthless Boosh OPI Skull and Glossbones Stranger Tides skull

Of course I had the spook it up a bit more and use Sir Kutna Hora, our replica skull we bought at the Sedlec Ossuary aka Church of Bones in Czech Republic. That place is amazing! If you ever get to go the Czech Republic, you need to see this place.

Polishes used where Illamaqua Ruthless, Throb and Boosh as well as OPI Skull and Glossbones and Stranger Tides. I painted my fingers black and added more 'blood' with red using acrylic paint.

To do this mani I put on a coat of Ruthless, when that was dry I put a very thick coat of Skull and Glossbones. After about 30 seconds I floated a medium thickness layer of Poshe quick dry topcoat over it and again after about 15 seconds I started moving and smooshing the topcoat and the polish below into rips, dents and creases. When completely dry started adding the details. I rubbed Stranger Tides into the creases to add a bit more colour, dabbed a light bit of black into it with my finger and layered the bright red, dark red and black around the edged to mimik blood. Done! Lot's of fun and surprisingly quick! The mani encompasses everything you shouldn't do when painting your nails haha!
